Identity Verification
Identity verification is the process of verifying that an individual is who they claim to be. This can be done for a variety of purposes, such as to confirm the identity of a user when they log in to an online service, to verify the identity of a user when they make an online transaction, or to ensure that only authorized individuals have access to certain resources or information.
Within the UK a group called the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) are responsible for providing guidelines to firms in the UK to meet the requirements of the money laundering directive. JMLSG provide guidelines for electronic identity checking which requires as a minimum name and address plus name and date of birth to be confirmed on multiple datasets. Essentially checking name and address on at least one source and checking name and DOB on at least one source and requiring at least 2 sources overall.
