UK Gambling Commission – Consultation for the proposals to strengthen age and identity verification for online gambling

The UK Gambling Commission today closes it’s consultation against it’s proposals to strengthen age and identity verification for online gambling. The current licence allowed a period of 72 hours to complete age verification checks (AV). The gambling operator cannot permit the withdrawal of funds until after the age verification checks have completed. The proposal is to change this requirement to prevent any gambling activity until the age verification checks have been performed.

The Gambling Commission opened a consultation with licencees and general industry open from 5th September 2018 and closed 27th November 2018.

The proposals stipulates that the identity of a customer must be known before they can gamble, with verification of their name, address, date of birth and email address.
